David grew up in the Midwest and started playing piano and singing at the age of 4. At 14 he picked up the guitar and has never put it down. Hitching his way from Iowa to California, he landed a full scholarship to a school of performing arts in San Diego. Performing as a singer and an actor at the Old Globe Theatre, auditioning and landing commercial television spots, David move to the Los Angeles area.
In the 70’s, David sang backup vocals while touring with The Carpenters. He also sang on recordings of The Carpenters, “Christmas Portrait” and “Sweet Sweet Smile” albums.
Returning to the Midwest for family reasons, he was quickly selected as one of the top studio singers throughout the country, singing on many national jingles recorded in Los Angels, New York, Minneapolis and Chicago.
Moving to Perth Australia in 1987 with his wife and two daughters, David toured with an Acappella group called Naughty Fish. One memorable gig was singing at a party for Alan Bond, the Australian hero who was defending the America’s Cup, he won in 1983.
Since 1988 David has lived in Clearwater Florida with his family, while he has been performing live and recording his original music.
In 2007 David released his debut album “Flavours of Life”, which includes 10 original songs and was mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound in NY, who’s works include Michael Buble’, Cold Play and 3 Doors Down. In 2008, he performed his original song Track 11, “I Don’t Hafta Worry About It” for a Jim Carrey movie.
At the end of 2008, he released an album titled “Dedicated”, a tribute of truly great songs that were sung by Karen Carpenter.
At the end of 2009, he released his 3rd album titled “Positive Energy”. This album is a solo acoustic performance by David, containing 9 original songs that will surely capture your heart.
In 2010, David finished his Christmas Album “David Cahalan Christmas”, which contains several Christmas standards as well has his new hit single “Santa’s Last Stop”.
David has been playing Seasons 52 in Tampa for several years.
He’s been living in Oregon for the past 3 years, helping a family member recover from surgery. Is currently getting back in the music scene, here in the Rogue Valley.
