Live Music – Broke in Stereo

July 26, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Broke in Stereo is the alias of American performing artist, songwriter, and producer Cabell Harris. As an alternative blues rock artist the obvious influence of the music is rooted in blues and alternative rock, though as an experimental artist both live and in the studio, he draws on a wide variety of influences from jazz to classical.

After the Northern California fire in October 2017 and 2 years of solo performances the now Los Angeles based blues rock and alternative contemporary artist has launched into the next stage of his musical career returning to tour trio and bringing new music with him.

First emerging with the alias out of Brooklyn, releasing tracks from the debut EP “Ear Art” in 2014, then getting started on the live scene in Brooklyn he played throughout the NYC club scene regularly. Debuting in the LA scene 2015 then promptly returning to tour the western US with a trio in 2016. Since then releasing the single “Outer-Net” 2017, full-length album “Auditory Artifacts” 2017, and the single “Johnny’s Got a Gun” 2018. Broke in Stereo has since established a reputation as an impressive and raw live performer as well as a versatile and inventive producer.

Harris grew up in the rural hills of Northern California on a ranch outside a small farming town in a small cottage. He began his musical career at age four on the violin, later learning piano, guitar, bass and drums. As a teenager he spent hundreds of hours with 4 track Tascam and a synthesizer learning the basics of the now older style of multi track recording.

As a guitarist he became obsessive all throughout high school and even started teaching. In 2005, awarded with numerous scholarships he went to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, studying composition and performance. He spent thousands of hours practicing guitar, composing and songwriting. He later became fascinated with a-tonal and melodically angular music which gave a strong and unusual color and quirk to his tunes with mostly simple structure and arrangements.

Following graduation from Berklee in 2009, Harris moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina later deciding travel Latin America; walking, busing and hitch hiking across nearly every country. In 2010, he returned to the US reappearing on the scene in Southern California where he worked as a music teacher at a piano institute and began to focus on songwriting, collaborating with numerous artists out of the Los Angeles area. In 2013 he moved to New York and established a life out of Flatbush Brooklyn as a guitar teacher. In 2014 he started writing and releasing tracks under the new alias Broke in Stereo. From Brooklyn it was a steady rise to the now established roots out of Los Angeles and can be seen and heard regularly touring of the western US.

The music’s sound stems from an eclectic combination of influences that range from rock, blues, folk, soul, jazz, and hip-hop. Described as blues rock with an experimental and alternative sound. The BMI affiliated artist can be found in the catalogues of Crucial Music.
