Live Music – Blades of Grass Quartet

Blades of Grass began as the bluegrass duo of Kathryn Casternovia on guitar and voice and Jef Ramsey on mandolin and voice.  Sixteen-year-old phenom and Western Open fiddle champion, Matthew Songmaker, joined the group in February, along with Ashland’s own Merrill Smith on bass. 

The quartet has been an instant sensation in it’s three previous appearances, performing for full houses each time.  Their material includes many Bill Monroe classics, as well as the works of Gillian Welch, Ralph Stanley, and several originals by members of the band.
